The 2/4th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was formed in 1943 and has been continuously operating ever since. The Journal of the Association, initially monthly and currently every second month, is entitled White over Green, and was first published on 15 May 1946 and has been dutifully published ever since. An archive of these journals, from 1946 onward, with significant numbers of volumes but yet incomplete, can be found on this website.
From White over Green, Vol.1 No.3, 15 July 1946, pg.1:
'All AIF Battalions were good battalions, and the 2/4th of which General 'Red' Robertson once said "would outmarch any unit in the Middle East" is second to none in tradition and pride of unit'.
The Association was initially formed by original members of the 2/4th Australian Infantry Battalion to continue their mateship forged in war, to support employment and rehabilitation for members, and to start a project to write a Battalion History - which was realised with the publication of the Battalion History book, also entitled White over Green (Angus and Robertson, Sydney, 1963) which is now a scarce, eagerly sought after volume.
Today the Association is honoured to still include 2 original veterans. The originals are ably assisted by a dedicated group of 2/4th Battalion Descendants and Supporters who are committed to continue the proud traditions of the 2/4th Australian Infantry Battalion into the 21st Century and beyond.
